The New Jersey Agricultural Society Welcomes
Newell Thompson, Executive Director

The New Jersey Agricultural Society is pleased to announce the appointment of Newell Thompson as Interim Executive Director effective March 1st. In his role, Newell will provide leadership and guidance as the spokesperson and visible presence for all constituents to increase the visibility and influence of NJAS. He will work with the Board of Trustees to develop and implement the strategic and operational plan with a focus on integrating all facets of programming and the overarching mission to serve farmers and agriculture in New Jersey. As such, his initial work assessing our 3 core signature programs - NJ Agricultural Leadership Development Program, Learning Through Gardening, and Farmers Against Hunger - will provide a framework for success moving forward. During his tenure, Newell will also explore new programs, initiatives, and partnerships to advance the mission of NJAS.

"We are so pleased that Newell is joining the NJ Agricultural Society's team. The Society is in a unique position to build on the success of the past and implement a new approach for educating New Jersey's citizens about the importance of farming and agriculture to the State's economy and quality of life. With Newell's commitment to promoting agriculture and farming, his vast experience in marketing, and his ability to partner and collaborate, the Society will move forward in a new direction to advance its mission."
                                                                                                                                                                                                   - Joni Elliott, President, Board of Trustees

Having spent a large part of his career in publishing and his recent involvement at The Decency Foundation, an organization dedicated to providing support and funding for small business farmers to build on-farm, micro-processing operations and connecting local community food networks, Newell's marketing experience and current work with farmers give NJAS a leader who will provide a fresh perspective and ideas to grow NJ Agriculture Society's voice and value at this critical time.

Newell is just completing an assignment with The Arena Group - a digital platform delivering email, SEO, CMS, social media, and a host of digital solutions for marketers. Prior to that, Newell’s career included leadership roles at National Geographic, TIME, Fortune, Conde Nast, and Gannett. And, while at Time Inc, Newell was Vice President of the Content Marketing & Strategies group producing content deliverables and storytelling for brands via print, video, digital, experiential, and audio.
